DIY Art and Fashion Saturday

After my previous post listing activities this weekend I totally forgot I had been invited to attend a holiday DIY t-shirt making and Appaman spring preview event in my hood hosted by Hiho Batik and Appaman.

Despite the snowy mess of a day, my friend Shanelle and I packed up our six kids between us and hit the slushy road.

To be honest I was like two seconds from canceling because the weather was so crazy but I'm glad I stayed the course and went. The relaxed vibe once we got there instantly put me in the right frame of mind.

The kids spent the afternoon making their own custom Appaman t-shirts, thermals or Hiho pillow cases. We learned the process of batiking, then followed the easy steps (to the right), and left our items for pick up in about  5-7 days.

Here's my daughter learning how to transfer her traced image from paper to her pillow case.

Outlining her drawing in wax by herself...careful it's hot.

Next step, adding color to her masterpiece...

The back of Hiho Batik can also be rented out for birthday parties, etc. There's a lot of space back there.

I also got to meet Monica from Macaroni Kid blog and Jessica, of Feed Me Dearly who you see below with her kids enjoying the signature Appaman monkey cookie station.

My babies got in on the cookie fun too.

The Hiho Batik store has a great selection of cool clothes, accessories and toys. If you are still in the market for holiday gifts this is definitely a must-shop.

I would totally go back for a random weekend treat- it was so cool. When we pick up our items I'll post pics of how they turned out.

Well that's a wrap. How was your weekend?
